José Miguel Oliveira and Hermenegildo Simão sign the chapter on Angola in the 11th edition of the International Comparative Legal Guide – Shipping Law 2024, published by the Global Legal Group.

In this publication, the lawyers analyse the Angolan legislation and regulations applicable to the country's shipping industry. To this end, the following topics are addressed: marine casualty, cargo and passenger claims, arrest and security, foreign judgments and awards, offshore wind, and renewable energy, as well as the latest developments in the sector.

In Angola, approximately 94% of imports arrive by sea, the authors explain. For this reason, “new objectives have been listed to be achieved in the long term up to 2050, such as: to ensure a clear regulatory framework, with a consolidated and modernised mandate; ensure competitive operations by increasing investment and private participation, both in terms of financing and management; promote transparency and efficiency of operations by creating an integrated port system that connects all actors in the value chain in real time; provide a reliable service, with service levels and operational indicators established, disseminated and monitored, and with contingency plans to correct deviations; simplify and clarify procedures, eliminating bureaucratic obstacles, particularly in customs procedures".
